Surah AYAT AL-KURSI

Surah AYAT AL-KURSI, 15 December 2024, Husna

Ayat al-Kursi (Verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah) is revealed in Madina.

Ayat al-Kursi is a powerful and widely recited verse in the Qur’an, emphasizing Allah’s unique attributes of sovereignty, knowledge, and eternal existence. Here’s the verse along with

its meaning:

Translation:

Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither sleep nor drowsiness overtakes HIM. Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth belongs to HIM. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by HIS permission? HE knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of HIS knowledge except for what HE wills. HIS Kursi (footstool) extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires HIM not. And HE is the Most High, the Most Great.

Key Themes in Ayat al-Kursi

1. Tawheed (Oneness of Allah):

Allah is the sole deity (free of partners or equals) and the Ever-Living (Al-Hayy) and Sustainer (Al-Qayyum) of all creation.

2. Allah’s Sovereignty:

Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to HIM. HIS dominion is absolute, and nothing happens without HIS permission.

3. Knowledge of Allah:

Allah’s knowledge is infinite and encompasses all things, past, present, and future. No one can grasp HIS knowledge except what HE allows.

4. Power of Allah:

His Kursi (translated as “Footstool” or symbolizing His authority) extends over the entire universe, and preserving it does not tire HIM.

5. Exalted Attributes:

Allah is the Most High (Al-Aliyy) and the Most Great (Al-Azeem), reflecting HIS supreme status and unmatched greatness.

Benefits of Ayat al-Kursi:

• It is considered a means of protection against evil and harm.

• The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing will prevent him from entering Paradise except death.” (Sahih Muslim)

• Reciting it before sleeping provides safety and peace throughout the night.
