Surah Al Baqarah was revealed over a period of 10 years in Madina.
The reason of its revelation is the formulation of rules and laws of shariat for new islamic state under prophet Mohammad SAW PBUH .
Main points of these verses (21-39) are:
The verse starts with Allah SWT addressing all the mankind ( ya ayyu hal insaan ) to acknowledge and appreciate His treasures and have faith in the prophet hood of Mohammed SAW.
Allah’s Tawheed:
Lailaaha illallah. Its negation of worshipping false deities/associating partners ie shirk and affirmation of worshipping Allah SWT alone.
Quran as a Miracle:
The Quran is a miracle that affirms the prophethood of Muhammad SAW. Allah SWT challenges disbelievers to produce a surah like it, which they couldn’t do.
Heaven and Hell:
Allah warns that hypocrites and disbelievers will face Hellfire, while the guided will enjoy Paradise, with flowing rivers, diverse fruits, and pure companions.
Creation of Adam AS:
Allah created Adam (AS) as humanity’s representative despite the Angel’s concerns about corruption. Allah taught Adam the names of all things, and the Angels prostrated before him, except for Iblis (Satan), who refused because of Arrogance (means rejecting the truth).
Adam AS’s Repentance:
After succumbing to Satan’s temptation, Adam (AS) learned words of repentance, which were taught by Allah SWT and his repentance was accepted.
Lessons to be learned
1. Use the Quran as your ultimate guide to peace and happiness.
2. Maintain faith in Allah SWT and follow His commands. When a command comes, no matter what, we need to follow it.
3. Worshipping Allah SWT doesn’t just mean we do salah and stop there. It means complete submission to Allah SWT by following the guidelines of Quran and Sunnah.
4. Prepare for the Day of Judgment, as you alone are accountable for your deeds.
5. Satan didn’t follow Allah’s command. He was arrogant as he considered himself to be better than Adam (AS). We may or may not be better than others but it’s always good to avoid considering ourselves superior.
6. Be wary of Satan, who leads us astray. Avoid Satan through constant Tasbeeh and timely Salah.
7. Prophet Muhammad SAW stated that Satan flees from homes where Surah Al-Baqarah is recited, especially its last two verses. Recite this Surah regularly, as it brings barakah in our homes.
