Al-Qadr is the 97th chapter of the Quran with 5 ayats/verses. It is a Makki surah which celebrates the exalted night when the first revelation of Quran was sent down.
Al-Qadr means night of power, night of decree, night of value, night of destiny.
“Allah sent the Quran down all at one time from the Preserved Tablet (Al-Law Al-Mahfouz) to the House of Might (Baytul-Izzah), which is in the heaven of this world. Then it came down in parts to the Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam) based upon the incidents that occurred over a period of twenty-three years.”
According to narrations by scholars such as Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), Surah Al-Qadr was revealed to indicate the tremendous importance of Laylat al-Qadr, which falls within the last ten nights of Ramadan. It is a night filled with divine mercy, spiritual opportunity, and immense rewards. For the early Muslims suffering oppression, this Surah gave them hope and a reason to persevere, encouraging them to seek Allah’s guidance and blessings.
Laylat-ul-Qadr commemorates the gift of Quran, which provides guidance for all aspects of life. Muslims are reminded to be grateful for this gift and to strive to understand and implement its teachings.
